How we do it: The science behind the programme

The link between the way feet work (foot function) and its effects on other parts of the body has been long established. We know that poor foot function not only causes problems directly to the feet but also can cause symptoms in other areas such as knee pain, back pain, leg aches etc. Traditionally symptoms occur and then the individual would seek medical advice.

The Stepcare programme fundamentally changes this approach with it’s ability to be pro-active in recognising poor foot function before symptoms have become significant. The element in the programme which enables this is the ParologgTM system.

We have the latest version of the paromedTM in-shoe plantar pressure measurement technology called ParologgTM. The system consists of insoles which have pressure sensors embedded in them. The insoles fit inside footwear and measure the loading and pressure distribution underneath the foot. The readings from ParologgTM can then be related to foot function and potential anomalies can be identified. We also use a high definition digital camcorder to assess the motions of the foot in walking and link this information with the plantar pressure measurement readings.
